National Monument, Jakarta, Indonesia

The National Monument (known locally as 'Monas') is the best-known landmark in Jakarta. This monument is a 422 ft (128.7 m) tower located in the center of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, and it is the symbol of Indonesian Independence. Its crowning feature is a massive, flame-shaped ornament of solid gold perched at the top of the obelisk. Commissioned by the President Sukarno in the 1961 and the monument was opened to the public in 1975.
