Koh Panyee, Phang Nga, Thailand

Taken with Nikon D60, dated Jul 2009

Koh Panyee is an immense limestone outcrop jutting out of the sea at Phang Nga Bay. It is about 20 minutes by long-tail boat from Surakul pier in Phang Nga province. At the foot of this giant rock monolith, there is a Muslim fishing village built entirely over the water on stilts.

About 1,500 people live on Koh Panyee and the village has its own school, a mosque, lots of small souvenir shops and a handful of seafood restaurants, all facing the sea. Many tourists on the James Bond tour are brought in for lunch and shop for handicrafts.
