Ko Phi Phi, Krabi Province, Thailand

Ko Phi Phi, "ko" meaning island in Thai language, is the name of a couple of islands in the Andaman sea off Southern Thailand's west coast. There are two main islands, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh, situated about half-way between Krabi and Phuket. Of these two islands only the larger, Ko Phi Phi Don, looks like two different sized lungs and is inhabited. It is a non-volcanic island but largely made of limestone. Ko Phi Phi Don is almost separated into two islands, but a strand of flat land connects them. Of the two main bays, only Loh Dalum is really suitable for swimming as the other one, Tonsai Bay is used as a harbour for boats and ships.

The smaller island, Ko Phi Phi Leh, is a popular destination for day trip from Ko Phi Phi Don whose natural beauty is still unspoiled. The island is mostly composed of towering limestone cliffs that spring up at right angles with the blue water surface. The water is brightly turquoise with the abundant coral reefs and species of fish. There are several magnificent beaches and small lagoons with teeming fish. Maya Bay is mostly known for its shallow bay which surrounding by a ring of steep limestone hills. It has become even more popular after the movie "The Beach" was filmed there.

Ko Phi Phi has ferry connections to Krabi and Phuket, is about one and a half hours journey. It is one of the south's most famous destinations, apart from golden beaches, Phi Phi island is home to Thailand's deep scuba diving sites.
