Terrace of the Elephants is located in the Royal Square of Angkor Thom and attached to the palace of Phimeanakas, of which only a few ruins remain. The Terrace of Elephants with length of 350 meters long terrace, two and a half-meter tall which is adorned with carved elephants, garudas (mythical man-bird figures), five-headed horse and other figures. Many lions decorate this enormous path. At the south stairway, there are three-headed elephant with trunks forming pillars tugging at lotuses. The terrace is named for the carvings of elephants on its eastern face.

The Terrace of the Elephants was used by Angkor's king Jayavarman VII for his public address, royal ceremonies, and also as a platform to view his victorious returning army.
