Taken with Canon powershot A75, dated Apr 05

The Wat Phra Mahathat is the major pilgrimage site of Nakhon si Thammarat and southern Thailand. It was constructed at the time of the finding of the town, and contains a tooth relic of Buddha. The main chedi (mean pagoda) in Wat Mahathat, 78 metres high, has a gold-covered tip is surrounded by 173 smaller one. The base of the chedi hold Buddha statues as well as statues of guardian elephants.

South of the chedi's courtyard is the monumental ubosot (ordination hall) of the temple. The hall is a masterpiece of the Ayutthaya style. Mahathat's resident monks live across the street at Wat Na Phra Boromathat.
