The Huka Falls are the largest falls on the Waikato River, located in between Rotorua and Taupo on New Zealand's North Island. They are the most visited natural attraction in New Zealand. The Huka Falls are famous for the speed and volume of water rather than the height of the falls, as the Waikato river pumps nearly 220,000 litres of water per second throung this narrow gorge and shoots out over 8 metres beyond to form a beautiful blue/green pool.
The name Huka is the Maori word for 'foam', which is approapriate as the falling water and rapids certainly resembles foam.
